Rise Park Junior School Admission of Pupils Policy The following criteria must be considered whenever parents request admission of their children to the school. Accommodation: - This will be dependent upon the following current factors: - School Admission Number – as set out in DES circular 6/91, More Open Enrolment in Primary Schools. This is currently 256. - Staffing limits set by the Governors at the annual Finance Committee budget meeting. - Class vacancies – Maximum class size is 32. Neighbourhood Area:- Overall priority will be given to children living in the current neighbourhood area for the school. Pupils at Rise Park Infant School automatically transfer to this school in year 3. NB If there are more neighbourhood children on the list than places available, the following criteria should be applied in order:- 1. Exceptional medical or social grounds – Supporting medical or other evidence MUST be submitted at the time of application. 2. Siblings – Brothers and/or sisters of existing pupils will be given priority when allocated places within the school. 3. Distance from the school – Priority will be given to those children living closest to the school. Admission from Neighbourhood schools: - Children will be accepted from neighbourhood schools and their catchment area, providing that admission places are available and no child is currently on the waiting list for that particular year group. Special Needs:- There should be no restriction placed on the admission of children with Special Needs, provided that: 1. The total number of statemented pupils and/or those needing extra help, does not rise above reasonable levels. 2. The accommodation levels are not adversely affected. 3. The school can satisfy the needs of the child. 4. There are available spaces in the year group. The length of a time a child’s name has been on the waiting list is not a factor that will be taken into account, as it is not part of the LEA admission criteria. Reviewed February 2006
